Fitness has always been a constant in my life. My parents were very athletic; always pushing my brother and I to get out and try new sports. Ballet and tap, gymnastics, golf, swimming, volleyball, cross country, basketball and track. If it involved movement, I was pretty much doing it.
Besides my parents, the biggest influences when it came to training were my high school and college coaches Todd Sharp & Sheryl Knight. They were the ones that gave me the opportunity to dance on three of the best dance teams in the nation: the Floyd Central Dazzlers, the Planet Dance All-Stars, and the University of Louisville Ladybirds. The amazing experience to be part of such high caliber programs and to have coaches that pushed me to achieve my goals and shape me into the coach I am today.
After college I trained on and off in different gyms around the area and participated in many local races. However, there was always something missing. Even though I was highly motivated, I missed having a coach to push me. Then I met Ben Carter. After my first CrossFit workout with him, I knew I would never go back to my old way of working out. He opened my eyes to a whole new world of fitness. I loved this idea that the workouts were short and intense and had so much variety! I found a new outlet and was no longer committed to being on a machine. The more and more I got into CrossFit the more I loved it. I decided to make CrossFit my full-time career. From that moment on, I tried to find as many educational opportunities and/or certifications as possible to make myself the most well-rounded coach I could. This led to numerous challenges ranging from CrossFit competitions, to a bikini contest, to Powerlifting and Olympic lifting meets, and even an Ironman 70.3. CrossFit has helped me meet and become friends with so many amazing athletes, coaches, and people, as well as introduce me to my now husband, Ben Carter. I definitely cannot imagine my life without CrossFit, and I look forward to the all the opportunities it brings.
